For LCD panels, you generally want to use the anti-aliasing features, which will be under the Details button. Windows XP uses what MS calls Clear Type, which is in effect the same thing. The key is to select a font, size and a 'smoothing/hinting' combination that you like. I use the Bitstream Vera Sans fonts for general settings for my system, with a font size of 12, Subpixel Smoothing and Full Hinting. I use the Bitstream Vera Sans Mono for the console/terminal. I also adjust the sub-pixel order to VRGB, which I find is a bit better than RGB. This is on a 1600x1200 panel with the Resolution set to 100 DPI. BTW, I much prefer the look of these fonts to what I used to get with WinXP using Clear Type. It does look "different" than XP, with the fonts tending to look "fuller", which for me using bi-focals makes reading much easier. HTH, Marc Schwartz
