A local mirrorlist can be maintained in one place (e.g. on a local web server) whereas editing local yum repo files would have to be done on each machine if you had several to maintain.
Ah, that is an option, the local web server that is, that I have not even thought about, it's so obvious that I have not seen it... :-) Thanks for enlighten me!
