Thanks for the suggestion.  After attempting to run update a number of
times today, it finally ran successfully.  Must have been a combination
of slow links and bandwidth.  

I noticed that yum didn't download packages it had previously picked up
but didn't get to the install phase which cut the download process
substantially.
