Hi all.Try using:
export http_proxy=http://username:password@xxxxxxxx:nnnn
This works for yum. It does not work for up2date or apt. But for my purposes yum is good enough! Thanks muchly!
If you set your proxy as shown above in your /etc/apt/apt.conf at the location reserved for this it should work.
