How are you trying to access the share on Window XP? Start -> Run -> \\<server name> Start -> Run -> \\<server name>\<share name> Start -> Run -> \\<server IP address>\ On the linux machine can you run smbclient -L to get a list of the shares and make sure they ARE published. Can you browse the shares localy? it could be a firewall issue, iptables -nL (I think) to get a list of active iptable rules.
