Ah, that makes sense. Unfortunately I never see the boot screen as the
machine cannot boot from CD-ROM and I'm using glbf to initialize an NFS
install  from a boot floppy that boots boot.iso from a VFAT partition.

Is there a kernel command line parameter that forces a text install?
This is the only variation I have on the installer boot process.
