Here's what I did to fix the "Open Office Apps not working"

I looked around for compat-libstdc++  and noticed that the .hdr files
existed in /var/spool/up2date but it wasn't installed...  I did a 

up2date u compat-libstdc++

and it installed.  problem fixed, now, why did that occur in the first
place.
