If you are already running a kernel, it would be telinit 3, not init 3. I did it yesterday while trying to do my NVIDIA driver unsuccessfully. Anyone figured that out yet? I see the kernel sources aren't there, not liking that. Also my up2date is not working at all, which is REALLY a problem since theres not apt-kickstart package yet.
