Has anyone succeeded in migrating Fedora / RH onto a different hardware platform?

Scenario:
If got a full tar backup of an existing running server. I want to restore a working version on another box, but with diferent hardware (RAID, NIC's, etc). Restoring the user data is easy. I need to know what files not to overwrite during the restore after a minimal install on the new box.

I've identified some files needed:
/boot/grub/grub.conf
/boot/grub/device.map
/etc/sysconfig/rawdevices
/etc/sysconfig/hwconf
/etc/sysconfig/grub

Any got suggestions or links?

Restore everything, except for the boot loader (grub & friends).

When you reboot, let kudzu, and friends, fix everything up.

The only time it's not that easy is when you're moving on/off a SCSI boot drive, or any other boot environment that needs its own, custom, initrd.
