This "mail transport" is what the computer uses both to send out mail to
others if you use that, and so the system can send mail to *you* about
its functioning. It can be switched off, but it is preferable to keep it
and solve the problem.

The problem is DNS misconfiguration. Make sure that /etc/hosts contains
a line like this:

127.0.0.1	localhost.localdomain	localhost

If you use another hostname, like "george.mydomain.com" then also add a
line like this:

127.0.0.1	george.mydomain.com	george

Let us know if this works or not.
