In fact, i'm used to read my 'Administrator' mail using "movemail" under 
netscape 4 because "root" is the only user which cannot connect under 
pop/imap.

Now, i'm used to redirect all root's mail from all servers to a admin 
account on the mail server, and then i can use IMAP.
