Hi there guys,

I have an Athlon64 Box, using a Radeon 9200SE video card running FC x86_64 (default kernel), up to date with most updates by yum. The problem I have right now is that X is too slow... After 3+ hs on, X starts to use 30% of the system memory (512 Mb BTW), and sometimes using 30% of CPU (as reported by ps), with no apparent system usage. At this time, the simple action of moving a window uses 100% of CPU. Sometimes, after 8+ on, I notice the use of swap memory... I am running Xfce 4.06 (I was running Gnome before, but with this issue using it is quite hard)... Any tips?? LMK if I need to post detailed system specs... BTW, right now (25 minutes since startup), X status is (by ps):

root 2163 9.5 8.9 208132 45832 ? S 15:46 2:21
/usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 -audit 0 -auth /var/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7

Thanks Thiago Guzella

I just built an Athlon 64 box with an Nvidia GEFORCE FX 5700 LE video card about 3 weeks ago. I have not had the problem you report. Everything worked AOK until I did a dist-upgrade using apt-get several days ago. It upgraded all the X related files and X then started crashing very frequently (just moving some windows could cause a crash) and it crashed every day even without doing anything. I switched from using the fc2 shipped nvidia GEFORCE FX driver to a generic VGA driver and the problem has disappeared. You might try the generic driver until you can find a better driver.
