Well, I just opened a file with this new version of OpenOffice, and thus far--no problems. In fact, this version fixes a bug that came up in my use of the last version: whenever I tried to save an OpenOffice .sxw file in MS format, the program crashed. Today--no crash, and it saves smooth as silk.
