One of the main arguments on this thread has been that you categorically do *not* need to do this. After all, one of the first things you *should* do after an install is make sure that you have updated your system so that it is patched and as secure as possible at that point. This will often involve a kernel update, and at this point any included kernel-source rpm becomes useless to you. in any case, whether you choose to do this or not, all you need to do to get the kernel source for your current kernel version is: up2date --get-source kernel-version or to update the kernel *and* download the appropriate sources: up2date -u --src kernel (apologies for any typos, it's late here. man up2date willl help) --------- [root@behemoth root]# up2date --get-source kernel http://fedora.redhat.com/download/up2date-mirrors/fedora-core-2 using mirror: http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/fedora/linux/core/2/i386/os/ http://fedora.redhat.com/download/up2date-mirrors/updates-released-fc2 using mirror: http://ftp.dulug.duke.edu/pub/fedora/linux/core/updates/2/i386/ Fetching all package list for channel: fedora-core-2...
