It might be quicker than Paul expects.  On a test box, I stopped the
ntpd service and forced the local time-of-day to be about 10 min ahead
of a box with very good time.

Then back on the test box I restarted ntpd

     # service ntp start

Watching the time with a loop and ssh.

     ========================
     Tue Oct 12 18:02:32 PDT 2004 local known good
     Tue Oct 12 18:14:27 PDT 2004
     ========================
     Tue Oct 12 18:03:02 PDT 2004 local known good
     Tue Oct 12 18:03:03 PDT 2004
     ========================
     Tue Oct 12 18:03:33 PDT 2004 local known good
     Tue Oct 12 18:03:33 PDT 2004

So wall time can be very good inside of a min.
