I don't understand your "intervention" or complaint. yum is a tool to handle repositories. Which to use lies in the hand of the user. The syntax is always the same. By default the Fedora Core and update repository is configured. If you want to use different or additional then please configure them. There is nothing to whine about. This is btw. The same with both other "frontends" and dependency managers for rpm: up2date and apt-rpm.
