Success at last, thanks to Tony Grant! Since I went over to Fedora-2 my C1VFK Picturebook has only run Linux in 8bpp. But Tony pointed to a bugzilla which addressed the issue, <http://freedesktop.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=591>. I just applied the very small patch in this URL, and was pleasantly surpriised to find I was back to 16bpp. (I could even run X at 24bppx1024x480 .) I should say I am actually running FC3-test2, but I assume the patch would work with FC2 equally well. The procedure I adopted is a little complicated, and may not be the best. I retrieved the xorg source rpm from my local FC3t2 repository, and unpacked it with "rpm -Uvh". Then I untarred xorg-x11*.tar.gz which was part of the package, applied the patch, and re-tarred the file. Finally I ran "rpmbuild -ba ../SPECS/xorg-x11.spec" which re-created xorg-xll*.rpm (and other rpms). I installed this rpm with "rpm -ivh --force", changed the DefaultDepth in xorg.conf to 16, and re-started X. -- Timothy Murphy e-mail (<80k only): tim /at/ birdsnest.maths.tcd.ie tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland
