force yum to use smbmount?

I have what I hope is an interesting question.
I am so low on disk space on this little laptop (700MB now) and I want
to do a major upgrade of a lot of rpm's.

I created a /mnt/mntyum that is pointing to a smbmount on my XP box that
has lots of gigs free.

How do I make yum *itself* use this mnt/mntyum for the cache?

Yes, I have searched. Perhaps I am using the wrong keywords.

Certainly this is possible?

(and still struggling with sound here but that can wait...lol)

any tips?

TIA,

=G
