Just think a bit: the main server at Red Hat has the updates, then it
has to populate them to the mirrors. This does not happens withing
seconds. The mirrors have periods when they sync with the main server.

No, because of above.

Seriously, the error the OP showed said in plain, untechnical language:
"you want me to handle a gzipped file, but it isn't one, so I have to
break". Why is it not a gzipped file? Simply because the update file on
the mirror server is not yet complete, because the server is still in
sync process.
