Seems you already did the first step to use a channel. This prevents
up2date from working on Fedora Core.

up2date does not need any association, it even will break up2date from
working.

Use an editor and - as root - edit the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/source file.
Find the line "#up2date default" and be sure there is a "#" in front of
the text. On

you find an article with some information on how to configure up2date to
use mirror servers.
