After a reboot it's back to the old situation.
How do I make this permanent ?

Boot with kernel 2.6.8.x and then, as root, run the commands:

  $ /sbin/modprobe -r 3w-xxxx
  $ /sbin/modprobe 3w-9xxx

which should load the correct kernel module for that card and should let you
see it in /proc/scsi.

Thanks Ed
I don't see it in /proc/scsi yet but fdisk -l now finally shows
/dev/sdb: 499.9 GB yahoooooo! :-)
