(In my case, n is 1 and m is 3.) Check the output of lsusb: n should be the Bus number and m the Device number. Note that these numbers *will* change if you unplug the scanner, or if you plug it into a different port. Try to get the number as low as possible and leave it plugged in: you want to get that symlink right when the system first boots. Then, when a user logs into the console, the device will be given the right permissions.
