What Markus was trying there was to get starting errores without having to change the postgresql.conf file. I would have persoanlly said this: 1) Login as postgres 2) Run "/usr/bin/initdb --pgdata=$PGDATA" (see the error messages). If everything is OK continue, else, correct what is wrong and go back to (2). 3) (if (2) came out OK) Run /usr/bin/pg_ctl start 4) If everything is OK 4a) run /usr/bin/pg_ctl stop and then /etc/init.d/postgresql start 4b) if not, read the error messages and correct what is needed, then go back to (3). -- 10:20:01 up 6 days, 38 min, 3 users, load average: 1.25, 0.86, 0.61 ----------------------------------------------------------------- Martín Marqués | select 'mmarques' || '@' || 'unl.edu.ar' Centro de Telematica | DBA, Programador, Administrador Universidad Nacional del Litoral -----------------------------------------------------------------
