Sorry, that should have read "then you do not use a console
framebuffer".

I see. Curious that I never saw this effect with my NVidia card and the
NVidia closed source drivers. I have heard from others, using these
drivers and framebuffer and equal problems. Well known is also the
effect which Eric describes.

A framebuffer console can be nice if you work much on console rather
than with X terminals. It gives you the ability to display much more on
the monitor because you have a higher resolution than 80x25 lines.
