Using a .forward is fine. It is customary to map a long list of pseudo users to root in /etc/aliases (some 55 or more). As a result "root stuff" is commonly mapped in etc/aliases. Watch .forward files for delivery loops.... Note that in Fedora redirecting mail will commonly use .procmailrc instead of .forward when sendmail is configured in the standard way.
