Can you try this?
Open OpenOffice an go to
Tools->Options->Openoffice.org->Memory
Change Graphics Cache from 9 to 30-40 Mb ( only for test )
Memory per object aprox 3 Mb
Save Options and reboot, to clean cache and start openoffice 'cold'
