I actually found a site on using the Tecra M1 with RedHat 9 (http://tuxmobil.org/toshiba_tecra_m1.html) and experiencing the same problem. They also had a fix and I copied their 'Section "Device"' into my xorg.conf and this works. Curiously, you have to press Fn+F5 otherwise the display is magnified 4x. (Pressing this causes the text consoles to go awry). Still it's a great improvement!

Hi,
I'm trying to install FC2 on a Tecra M1. All proceeds fine until Anaconda loads and the colors are wrong; it's hard to describe: they're not inverse but the palette is wrong, text is barely readable.
I can't find any reference to this problem, does anyone else have any experience with it?
Is this a driver problem (the Tecra has a Trident Cyber-XP4 according to Windows)?
If I install in text mode, I would presume X would suffer the same problem?
Not necessarily; give it a try. Install, then apply all the updates, then configure X.
You may also get some help from Toshiba's mail list. From the headers:
If you have a question, send e-mail with the body "# help" (without quotes) to the address tlinux-users-ctl@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx; help=<mailto:tlinux-users-ctl@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?body=#help>
That should get you enough information to subscribe.
