I need to - 'modprobe hisax' and then 'modprobe hisax_fcpcipnp'

No, you don't need to.

$ grep hisax_fcpcipnp /lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/modules.dep
/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/drivers/isdn/hisax/hisax_fcpcipnp.ko:
/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/drivers/isdn/hisax/hisax_isac.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/drivers/isdn/hisax/hisax.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/lib/crc-ccitt.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/drivers/isdn/i4l/isdn.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.8-1.521smp/kernel/drivers/net/slhc.ko

"modprobing" hisax_fcpcipnp will automatically load the hisax module.
That is the sense of using modprobe.

Does this mean i'm now OK?

Yes, now the card recognized.

I guess I need to add the modprobe to the isdn service in init.d ?

No, that should be done different.

What is the content of /etc/sysconfig/isdncard? There should be
something in like

/etc/sysconfig/isdncard steht folgendes:

RESOURCES='protocol=2'
NAME='AVM PCI (FRITZ!PCI)'
MODULE='hisax_fcpcipnp'
VENDOR_ID='1244'
DEVICE_ID='0e00'
FIRMWARE=

Important is the MODULE line.

Thanks again Alexander

I changed isdncard from MODULE='hisax' to MODULE='hisax_fcpcipcn'
When I reboot:-
Sep 11 06:48:15 Vigor11 kernel: ISDN subsystem Rev: 1.1.2.3/1.1.2.3/1.1.2.2/1.1.

Sep 11 06:48:15 Vigor11 kernel: HiSax module removed
Sep 11 06:48:15 Vigor11 kernel: ISDN-subsystem unloaded

Before the reboot if I enter
modprobe hisax_fcpcipnp I get the mesage unknown module and I needed to enter modprobe hisax first

After changing isdncard fron 'hisax' ti 'hisax_fcpcipnp' and after a reboot modprobe 'hisax_fcpcipcn' now is OK

My grep show one line less than yours:-
[root@Vigor11 2.6.5-1.358]# grep hisax_fcpcipnp modules.dep
/lib/modules/2.6.5-1.358/kernel/drivers/isdn/hisax/hisax_fcpcipnp.ko: /lib/modules/2.6.5-1.358/kernel/drivers/isdn/hisax/hisax_isac.ko /lib/modules/2.6.5-1.358/kernel/drivers/isdn/hisax/hisax.ko /lib/modules/2.6.5-1.358/kernel/drivers/isdn/i4l/isdn.ko /lib/modules/2.6.5-1.358/kernel/drivers/net/slhc.ko
[root@Vigor11 2.6.5-1.358]#

with crc-ccitt.ko missing.

Is my modules.dep broken?

Thanks again

Ian
