Although this morning it's in my list of up2dates to do !

So if I do do will it mess anything up, like the 2.6.8 kernel does with
k3b? I'd hate that to happen as I have this FC2 machine working better
than 2 Windows machine I have.

This is a wild guess having not looked at the code, but I suspect that the updated cdrecord will refuse to run if it has been installed setuid root because, as the update announcement noted, that would be a very stupid thing to do.
