This divergence is often the case. Sendmail is currently at 8.13.1 and
Fedora Core 2 has 8.12.11.

I think there is a "not" missing in the sentence.

Do you miss a critical bugfix that Cyrus-IMAPd 2.2.8 is fixing and which
is version 2.2.3 is causing? Many people still use Cyrus-IMAPd 2.2.3 (or
even older) with no problems.

Though running Fedora Core you are living at the leading edge of free
softwre development, but mostly never at the very top. Packages need
development and testing to be stable and not each version update is
really necessary.

If a Fedora package has problems / bugs, then report them with bugzilla,
so that the maintainer gets informed and can fix it.
