I upgraded fro FC1 to FC2 mostly to get the new kernel. I saw the benefits right away, but there were some issues. One was that my trusty xmms stopped working on mp3s that were ok before. I get a message every time telling me that output is blocked, and am advised to check that no other program is running and using the device. Fair enough, it wasn't a very high priority so I parked it and got on with my routine use of the computer. One thing I did was to download the dynebolic live CD (very interesting piece of Rasta software, with good media capabilities). Using xmms on that distro (based on Knoppix) worked just fine. So I think that eliminates hardware failure. But I didn't see what else to do. Today, while looking at a web site I clicked on a flash animation link and got sound! for the first time in two or three months. Wel, what gives? I tried to open an mp3 directly in Firefox (0.9.3) and that works ok. I thought maybe the browser was blocking xmms (although it didn't with FC1) so I logged out, logged back in and tried xmms. No go. Firefox still plays ok. Ideas? Dave -- John Dewey - Politics is the shadow cast on our public life by big business.
