I have found that the best driver for my video card should be the ATI Radeon 64 DDR (AGP) : indeed, my video card is an ATI Mobility Radeon graphics controller with user selectable 32-MB or 64-MB DDR SDRAM 4X AGP.

But, when I check the properties of the video, it is again written (see "Material") that I use the VESA driver (generic) !!!

In fact, I have saw this morning on http://www.cyrius.com/contact/index.html that the best dirver for my computer should be the ATI Radeon Mobility U1. Thus, now the /etc/X11/xorg.conf gives

Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "Monitor Vendor" ModelName "LCD Panel 1024x768" HorizSync 31.5 - 48.5 VertRefresh 40.0 - 70.0 Option "dpms" EndSection

Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "radeon"
VendorName "Videocard vendor"
BoardName "ATI Radeon Mobility U1"
EndSection

Since this driver is given in the Fedora Core 2 video driver list, I have choose it.

But, again, I have the same pb. described before.

Did you restart the X server after the change of the graphics driver?

Yes.

And, indeed, I think that the video is not at all optimized !

From what do you conclude that?

When I run the very simple game Chromium given in the Fedora Core 2 DVD, the results are very bad even by choising screen size = 800 x 600 and graphics level = low in the Chromium configuration : the results are so bad that it is impossible to play !!!

Moreover, I can see by using many shell terminals for example that the video has sometimes difficulties that my very old pc does not have ...).

Thus : where is the bug ? Do I have installed the ATI Radeon driver or not ???

You may run "glxinfo" to get some information.

Ok. This gives :

Moreover, I don't find the monitor driver (my monitor is a 12.1-inch TFT XGA display). Thus, I use :

There is no monitor driver on Linux. There are simply frequency and desktop size settings.

        ModelName "LCD Panel 1024x768"
        HorizSync 31.5 - 48.5
        VertRefresh 40.0 - 70.0

Did you get these values from the TFT manual?

No. It is default values.
