Greetings;

I have need to add a "monthly event" to my root crontab.

....

They are in my man pages.... but let me conjecture....

Are you simply typing in "man crontab"? That will show you the man
page for the "crontab" command from chapter (1). Try typing in
"man 5 crontab" to have it show you the information from chapter
(5) which is

....

Where in the manpage info, is this defined so that I might not have to ask what is in retrospect a stupid question that really does have an answer if only *I* knew *where* to look?

Where to look and the organization of chapters.

intro (1) - Introduction to user commands
intro (2) - Introduction to system calls
intro (3) - Introduction to library functions
intro (4) - Introduction to special files
intro (5) - Introduction to file formats
intro (6) - Introduction to games
intro (7) - Introduction to conventions and miscellany section
intro (8) - Introduction to administration and privileged commands

Try man 1 intro; man 2 intro; etc.
Also man -a intro

And "man -k crontab". ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - Rick Stevens, Senior Systems Engineer rstevens@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - - VitalStream, Inc. http://www.vitalstream.com - - - - If this is the first day of the rest of my life... - - I'm in BIG trouble! - ----------------------------------------------------------------------
