Re: no audio with Quicktime video streams

On my limited experience I'll ask this

1/ What sound system do you use alsa/arts/oss/esd

Well, I don't really know for sure, but I think it's alsa, since when I installed FC2, I had to move some of the levels using alsamixer.

2/ What soundcard do you have

Integrated sound card on ASUS A7V8X-X mobo, ADI1980 6-Channel Audio

3/ How do you start mplayer

a/ On the desktop - gmplayer

For those trailers that are at the apple.com/trailers site, I'm using the mozilla plug-in for mplayer. When I start it from the terminal, I use mplayer.

b/ In a terminal - mplayer -vo xv -ao *

If you use b/ is there any messages regarding audio on the terminal/console when the video stops.
Are there any error messages at all on the audio not playing

david

Yes -- I think now that the problem is with an audio codec, because when I downloaded the full-screen Spiderman II trailer from the apple.com/trailer site, and unzip it, and attempt to play it locally, I get the same symptoms: nice video, but no sound at all.

From the output below, and my reading the /user/share/DOCS/HTML/en/codecs.html file, it looks like there are no codecs defined locally. However, if I understand this reference, correctly, mplayer must be compiled with the codecs. Did these codecs not come in with the #yum install mplayer* ? Is there a way to correct this with yum?

Thanks,
Clint
