Please don't "hijack" foreign threads by replying to a list mail while
you want to start a new subject. You replied and you mail got
referencing header tags for the thread "HELP: NFS on fedora core 2".

You want to setup SMTP AUTH for allowing relaying through Sendmail based
on authentication by the users, just like they auth with a POP3 or IMAP
server.

http://www.sendmail.org/~ca/email/auth.html#AUTH

The Fedora Sendmail is well prepared. You just have to activate
commented lines in the sendmail.mc and restart the Sendmail daemon. Be
sure the saslauthd is running. By default it auths against the shadow
file. If your users use unencrypted auth methods like LOGIN or PLAIN I
recommend you configure STARTTLS too and force it's usage prior to any
auth.
