The "devel" packages for libraries include the stuff (like include files) you need if you are going to write your own programs using the libraries - or if you need to compile an application using them. Basically, if you're not short on disk space, it won't hurt to have them, and if you decide to install an application from source some time in the future, you'll be happy not to have to hunt them down. tis 2004-08-10 klockan 11.34 skrev Michael Mallete: > this is very embarrassing, but i guess i really have > to ask such basic question. when manually choosing > packages to update for my fc2, i encountered packages > with a "devel." for example, there's a > kdelibs-3.2.2-6.i386.rpm and there's a > kdelibs-devel-3.2.2-6.i386.rpm. so which do i download > and install? what does that "devel" mean? should i > have them both? > > hope you don't mind. thanx in advance! :) > > > -Myk > > > > __________________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > New and Improved Yahoo!
