It's truely amazing how easy it is to turn IPv6 on (you can enable it in Windows XP without even rebooting - you can't change anything else without rebooting, but, you can enable that entire damn protocol stack) and how difficult it is to disable it (kill everything, fix all possible configuration files, and THEN REBOOT LINUX). All you have to do is reference PF_INET6 or AF_INET6 in a program, if you have not killed it in modprobe.conf, and kmod loads it for you (sans configuration scripts, which is where I think the real trouble originates). Even then, it can STILL be loaded and enabled (but still not configured) if anyone (bad guy) or anything (malware) runs "modprobe ipv6". Better solution might be to truely and correctly enable it and configure it and be done with it. BTW... At LinuxWorld, where I was speaking on IPv6, I was sniffing the wireless networking there. There was native IPv6 on the net (air/wire) out there. You can bet that THEY weren't aware of it (and it wasn't all me). If you don't think it's out there, you need to get a clue before someone clues you in with a clue-by-four. I had no trouble spinning IPv6 up and running it to the global IPv6 address space and access all my stuff out there on IPv6. > -- > Brian Gaynor > Precision MicroControl Corp. > e-mail: briang@xxxxxxxxxxx > web: http://www.pmccorp.com > phone: 760.930.0101 > direct: 760.930.0485 x13 > fax: 760.930.0222 Mike -- Michael H.
