Eudora and pop3s on Fedora

Folks

I have a Microsoft XP system running a Eudora E-mail client (version 5.1).
I have a mail server on a Fedora system.

I successfully retrieve my mail using POP3 protocol (without encryption).

I tried to switch to the SSL/TLS method, and did the following:

1) Enabled the pop3s service in /etc/xinetd.d/pop3s.
2) Generated a certificate for "ipop3d"
3) Configured my Eudora client to use "alternate port" (that's 995)

After a few certificate import functions in Windows/Eudora, I got a successful connect.
However, after transmitting the first message, my client hung, and eventually timed out.

There is an obscure reference to something like this in the file
 /etc/stunnel/stunnel.conf-sample
but I'm not using stunnel, but using the pop3s service directly.

Any clues?

David
