Heh, a reboot didn't fix it since the device was still not responding.
Shutting off the scsi tape, and turning it back on worked after the reboot.
So the tape drive got confused and the power off/on cleared it. ;-)
Yep, let's hope it doesn't become a common problem.
This machine was just brought into production. :-/
