If you're looking for a "free as beer" (no money) application, i think
you're in the wrong way, Qcad is a very small CAD.
Varicad (www.varicad.com) is a good clone of Acad, but is commercial
(about 400$).

Take a look to varkon, is a very powerful cad and it's for free
download, but it has a very different approach to your "well known"
apps: http://www.tech.oru.se/cad/varkon/
Also, there is a good list of technical applications:
http://www.linux-cae.net/CAD/
But remember that dwg is a commercial format..

Blender is the answer!! www.blender.org
You can download tarballs to compile, or a static compiled binary
Blender also has a cad module, but i didn't try it, yet.
