There is a known bug in FC2 that effects ASUS and VIA motherboards.  I had a
very similar experience on an ASUS p4p800 deluxe Motherboard.  I guess the
redhat 2.6 kernel has some mods in it that make it not work with these boards. 
I had to download a different disc1 iso that had a fix on it.
