Hi

The docs are there but its pretty scattered

For bash you will have to read the bash manual

Two basic files are .bash_profile which is the user specific settings
of /etc/profile and .bashrc which is likewise equivalent to
/etc/bashrc. .bash_history contains the list of commands you have
typed before which is where the output of history command comes from.

Xauthority is for X client/server authentication
.Xresources you can specify x client settings

.gconf is gnome user configuration deamon directory
.gnome* is gnome specific settings. likewise for kde

For kde files the documentation look at

http://www.kde.org/areas/sysadmin/fsh.php

what else do you need to know?
