Hit the same problem just the other day. Installed a new 250GB
harddrive and setup a partition to be used as a shared area. Could see
the server via a windows network neighborhood but could not connect.
Finally realized it was the firewall settings on the FC2 box.

I reconfigured iptables to let 137, 138, 139, and 443 (I think the last
port is correct) through the firewall so the lan manager services could
get through.

One question I have not found an answer for is if both udp and tcp ports
on all of these need to be let through. Anyone know for sure?

I think smb should be added to the default list of options to permit
access through iptables like ftp, ssh, smtp, and http.

Say it with flowers,
Or say it with mink,
But whatever you do,
Don't say it with ink!
