Installed a new 250GB harddrive and setup a partition to be used as a shared area. Could see the server via a windows network neighborhood but could not connect. Finally realized it was the firewall settings on the FC2 box. I reconfigured iptables to let 137, 138, 139, and 443 (I think the last port is correct) through the firewall so the lan manager services could get through. One question I have not found an answer for is if both udp and tcp ports on all of these need to be let through. Anyone know for sure? I think smb should be added to the default list of options to permit access through iptables like ftp, ssh, smtp, and http. -- Scot L.
