I'm running MatLAB versions v6.1, v6.5 and v7 on RH 7.x + 8 + 9, and
Fedora Core 1 + 2 on P3, P4, and Opteron systems using both default
Gnome and recent Enlightenment builds as my window manager. With v6.1
and v6.5, I've had a number of crashes when trying to plot large data
sets (matricies over 600MB in size). However, so far, v7 has been
completely stable even with these big data sets.

If v6.x is troublesome then I highly recommend trying v7. Its available
under a free 30-day trial license so you can easily verify whether its
more stable on your system.
