I have a similar problem if I boot my FC2 with Logitech USB WebCAM connected (but not working in linux). My webCAM has a microphone integrated and was detected first than AC97 codec.

Ive just installed core 2 onto my laptop. Everything works fine, except sound. My sound appears to have been detected, but when i try and play a sound it repeats each cord many times. So a sound is produced, but a single 'ding' sound will go on for over a minute before stopping.
The only errors I can see in message are:
modprobe: FATAL: Error running install command for sound_slot_1
which appears twice.
Any pointers to look at to try and fix this?

no, this is a fresh install on the laptop, and all that is plugged in is the power cable and a network cable connected to my router.
