a friend of mine (newbie) has this problem:
suddenly when he pushes the red-hat on the left of the screen on the bat he gets the message:
gnome-panel application exits abnormally and he can't operate any more, he has to reset the PC by Ctrl+alt+del
What is the easiest way to recover from It???

This should work, if things are similar to how ximian and the crashing panel worked for me.
I'm not sure if oaf-slay is still available to kill off defunct programs. This command/script used to correct a lot of problems.
