Are there any open source projects working on the ability to import Canon's RAW formats to TIFF for use in Linux? IE a GIMP plugin or something?

I wrote an article for Red Hat's wide open magazine (Issue 1, 2004) talking about performance tuning. As an example I tuned a program that converts the RAW files from the Canon Digital Rebel into PPM format. The conversion program can be obtained from:

Gimp (or other programs) could be used to convert the ppm file into tiff.
