I wrote an article for Red Hat's wide open magazine (Issue 1, 2004) talking about performance tuning. As an example I tuned a program that converts the RAW files from the Canon Digital Rebel into PPM format. The conversion program can be obtained from:


http://www.cybercom.net/~dcoffin/dcraw

Gimp (or other programs) could be used to convert the ppm file into tiff.
