Either it is possible to not upgrade but to install db42 / db42-devel in parallel to the db4 of Fedora, which will not collide and override any default db files or it is not possible. You might first try "rpm -ivh --test db42 db42-devel". If that conflicts, and from your initial posting I hardly assume it conflicts, you have only 2 possibilities: you rebuild each and everything that is dynamically linked against the Fedora db files - which is quite a lot! - or your try to compile the subversion that comes with FC2 http://wftp.tu-chemnitz.de/pub/linux/fedora-core/updates/2/SRPMS/subversion-1.0.4-2.src.rpm running "rpmbuild --rebuild subversion-1.0.4-2.src.rpm". Can't tell you if that will work or if it needs further adjustments with the SRPM.
