[fc1] ls and garbaged output

Hi,
I am running Lotus Domino 6.52 on various redhat versions, one of them is fc1.
I usually do this with setting LANG=de_DE and everything is fine.
Reason for this was, my ssh Client did not support UTF-8.

Now I tried with install value LANG=de_DE.UTF-8.
Domino runs fine but when creating directories and filenames with german special characters from within Domino I see only ??? (questionmarks) when doing ls.
Domino itself shows the file right and when pressing tab for commandline expansion or echo * I get the right characters.
Why shows ls wrong?

Thanks
Rainer
