Hi All,

When I want to perform a full system backup to tape, Do I need to backup
/sys/* as well ???
I notice that my DLT is quite slow when performing the backup of the /sys/*
files.

I get these kind of messages :
cpio: File ./sys/class/scsi_host/host0/host_busy shrunk by 4094 bytes,
padding with zeros
./sys/class/scsi_host/host0/host_busy
cpio: File ./sys/class/scsi_host/host0/unique_id shrunk by 4094 bytes,
padding with zeros

I suspect that these files are all created when booting the system which
means that they do not need to be backed-up
Am I suspecting right or wrong ?

Edwin,

/sys, /proc and /dev are system directories and you don't need to backup
them, since they're recreated by the system anyway on every reboot.
Backing up those would make no sense, cause of the former reason.
Actually those are not regular files, but virtual files in the virtual file-system.

Cheers,
Hannes.
